What began as a small, family owned stone yard, is now one of Lyons better known businesses. Blue Mountain Stone was founded in 1977 - with three generations going back to Raul’s grandfather Santos Vasquez and his dad, Manuel Vasquez, the Vasquez family has made the business what it is today! While Blue Mountain Stone and owner Raul Vasquez are well known for their longevity and hard work, they are even more recognized for the rock work donated all over town. Any where you look in Lyons, you can tell where they’ve been. From the beautiful hand crafted flower planters that greet you as you enter Lyons, to the “eggs” that pop up all around town. The mushroom sculptures are a real treat, but make sure you check out the Raul Vasquez community stage, that’s made entirely of sandstone!!
While Blue Mountain Stone remains to this day traditional and family oriented, they’ve also realized the need to grow with the times. The latest trends with sandstone have opened up a whole new avenue for Blue Mountain Stone; sandstone is no longer just used for landscaping or patios – people are now installing stone countertops, bar tops and fireplaces. It’s becoming more mainstream and Blue Mountain is leading the way. When the local Outlaw Saloon was being renovated, they incorporated sandstone into as much of the building as possible; and the results are outstanding!
There really isn’t any order too big or too small for Blue Mountain Stone to fill! While they mostly supply other local stone yards with sandstone; they also do amazing landscaping and custom rock design. They deliver statewide but have provided stone to companies as far away as Hawaii!!
Blue Mountain Stone is locally owned and operated; and owner Raul Vasquez makes it a top priority to give back to his community now that he’s so well established. He has said it’s really rewarding to try to make your community a little nicer, and we couldn’t agree more with him.
